Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop culture narratives. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a young stage of her life. In 2009, while still studying at university she started the Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series examining gender representation in video games. However, she was the subject of a harassment online campaign. This attack was not enough to stop her. Instead, it strengthened her commitment to be a feminist as well as media critique. As a result of the many achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture narratives.
